Pittock Waters Unsafe for Swimming

Public health staff have been collecting samples from the local recreational waters every week since the middle of May.  The reservoir at Pittock Conservation Area has since been posted as unsafe for swimming after lab tests show bacteria levels slightly above provincial standards.

Warning signs to stay out have been posted in the beach area.

E. coli bacteria in water is an indicator of fecal contamination from either animals or people or both. E. coli and other disease-causing organisms can cause skin, eye, ear, nose and throat infections or gastrointestinal illness.
