I replied to this stating I had no intention of paying a delivery fee and got no response.  I have heard of scams like this and was therefore aware of the outcome however, I worry about people out there who are not aware and may pay either the $195 or $155 for delivery of a bogus cheque!!!  Worn your friends and family, especially those who may be more vulnerable.

Windows need a cleaning???

Today I had my windows cleaned by a University student who has taken this up as a side job along with a friend of his.  They were recommend to me by my cousin and I was so shocked by the price I had to call for myself.  He gave me a rough price over the phone and less than a week later here he was cleaning all my windows: inside, outside, screen and sills, including all basement and garage windows for under $200!!

Nova Steel is Coming to Woodstock

A major player in the North American steel industry is coming to Woodstock and is in hiring mode.

Nova Steel has acquired the former Hobart Brothers industrial building on Pattullo Ave.

It's an expansive 148-thousand square foot building. But it looks like they're looking for more room, as construction crews are at the site, grading land on the south side of the building. (Pictured right) The expansion is said to be adding another 25,000 square feet to the facility.

Another positive test for West Nile

The second positive test for West Nile was found in a Woodstock trap, the first result was from a mosquito trap in Ingersoll last month.

To help control the mosquito population, Oxford County Public Health & Emergency Services is increasing mosquito surveillance and have begun larvaciding public catch basins.

This another that we need to protect ourselves and young ones against mosquito's this can be done by using bug repellent with DEET, searing light-coloured clothing, and wearing long sleeves and pants when mosquitoes are most active.  Also remember to reduce the amount of outside standing water to help limit mosquito breeding grounds

Ever wanted to see your name or the name of your organization up on the big screen? Now is your chance in a movie called "DRUMBO"!

Chris Layton moved to Drumbo in 2004 and attended Paris District High School. Many of you will remember Chris from when he was employed for 3 years at Drumbo Variety. He left Drumbo in 2011 to pursue his dream of attending film school and he has now accomplished this goal. He has graduated from the very prestigious Vancouver Film School and is currently employed on three television sets. As part of his entrance criteria for film school, Chris has written a movie script called “Drumbo”. The movie is a comedy about a fellow who works as a gas attendant in town. His friends have returned from university after four years away and want to catch up. What they discover is that he has turned into a grumpy curmudgeon and they set about to find out why. Comedy and hilarity ensue.

In order to get this project into wide distribution, Chris needs to raise $10,000.00.  Here's how you can help make history!

For a donation to this project, your name will appear in the credits! The placement and recognition of the name of your organization in the end credits of the film will highlight your contribution.

PLEASE, consider making a contribution of whatever you can afford to this project for a former local boy eagerly trying to make his mark in the world of film. It’s a testimony to his affection for the town of Drumbo that he has chosen to make it the setting of his very first large scale effort in the film industry. Let’s help him succeed and really put Drumbo on the map!

Donation credits as follows:

- special thanks credit
- dvd poster

$100

Pittock Waters Unsafe for Swimming

Public health staff have been collecting samples from the local recreational waters every week since the middle of May.  The reservoir at Pittock Conservation Area has since been posted as unsafe for swimming after lab tests show bacteria levels slightly above provincial standards.

Warning signs to stay out have been posted in the beach area.

E. coli bacteria in water is an indicator of fecal contamination from either animals or people or both. E. coli and other disease-causing organisms can cause skin, eye, ear, nose and throat infections or gastrointestinal illness.

COUNTY ISSUES A HEAT ALERT FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS

The alerts are issued when the humidex factor breaks the 40-degree barrier.

Tomorrow will be the hottest day of the week with a projected high of 35-degrees, with even higher humidity.

We'll see relief by Wednesday with a high of 26.

During these conditions, public health reminds people outdoors to stay hydrated and seek shade where possible.

Here are some other tips from Oxford Public Health regarding heat safety:

Whose health is most at risk from heat?

  • Children
  • Seniors
  • People with chronic health conditions
  • Outdoor workers (landscaping, construction)
How to protect yourself

  • Drink lots of water or natural juices throughout the day before you feel thirsty.
  • Avoid going outside, or wear a hat or stay in the shade if you are outdoors.
  • Avoid intense activity. Plan work or outdoor activities during cooler parts of the day.
  • Never leave a child, pet, or someone you caring for in a car or in direct sunlight.
  • Check on those who are at risk.

Signs of physical distress from heat

  • Rapid breathing
  • Weakness or fainting
  • Tiredness, headache or confusion
  • In children: vomiting, sleepiness, changes in behavior, for instance temper tantrums

How to help someone suffering from heat-related illness

  • Cool the person by applying cold water to large areas of the skin or clothing.
  • Fan the person as much as possible.

What to do if you have heat distress

Seek medical attention immediately: call your doctor, go to the nearest Emergency Department, or call 911.

PARENTS AND CHILD CARE PROVIDERS BEWARE

WATCH OUT!!! COMBUSTIBLE PLASTIC BOTTLES

FOUND IN PUBLIC PLACES ACROSS ONTARIO

The Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Woodstock & Ingersoll have informed us that, in parks across Ontario, there have recently been several incidents involving flammable plastic water bottles.

These bottles contain a small amount of liquid drain cleaner, or liquid toilet bowl cleaner, and some tin foil. They are usually placed on people's front lawns or in other public places and, if picked up, explode-causing chemical burns to the person's face and/or hands.

Blandford-Blenheim Community Profile

Located in the heartland of South-Western Ontario Blandford-Blenheim offers all of the conveniences of urban living while enjoying the serenity of country life. Our location, and proximity to many large economic centers to Hwy 401 and Hwy 403 make Blandford-Blenheim an ideal place to live, work, and visit.
The Township is located in Oxford County, and has a population of approximately 7,200. The Township was almalgamated in 1975 from the historic County Townships of Blandford and Blenheim. Prominent communities within the Township include Bright, Drumbo, Plattsville, Princeton, and Washington.
Businesses within the Township enjoy low cost, and essential business services such as hydro, and advanced telecommunications. Blandford-Blenheim is located in the centre of Southwestern Ontario, which is home to approximately 3 million people who enjoy the temperature, climate, fertile soil, gently rolling landscapes, and varied stretches of lakeshore.
The Township, and the surrounding area has a long tradition of agriculture, which has bred a workforce accustomed to long hours of hard work, rewarded by a sense of personal responsibility and independence. Many of its skilled workers have grown up in the Township, while others have been attracted to the area because it has a place for the new economy of skills and specialized training in automotive, machining and plastics, food processing and advanced agricultural technologies. The workforce is well educated, and employees and residents benefit from being in close proximity to several major colleges and universities.
Blandford-Blenheim has close access to Highway 401, Highway 402, Highway 403, the Canadian National, and the Canadian Pacific Rail Line. The Township is within:
  • a two and a half hour drive to half of Ontario’s population (nearly 6 million people);
  • a three hour drive to major border crossings in Michigan, and New York State; and
  • a day’s drive to 130 million North American consumers and most major manufacturing centres within the American Midwest, and Eastern Seaboard.
